Choose the right candidate
It’s
your vote, your choice but it impacts Parkside so exercise wisdom & caution
before casting your vote.
Choose
the right candidate for Parkside’s better future
1. Candidates need
to work as a team while on the HOA Board with the prime focus
being the whole of Parkside NOT just their alley, street or yard.
2. HOA Board members
should be one who can have the right attitude and relationship with
vendors and work peacefully with the HOA management company and HOA law firm.
3. Residents/Board need
doers, not mere talkers to do this job. Also, they should be
approachable, dependable, and those who wish to do something good that is for
the betterment of Parkside. It is nice to have some prior HOA or volunteer
experience.
4. Choose an HOA
Board member’s team which has a mix of past HOA Board members and new Board
members (who have some credible experience like working in ARC and volunteer
events) as it helps in continuing the long-term aspirations of the community.
5. Choose HOA Board
members who has proven past track record for working for the community
as a volunteer.
6. Choose HOA Board
members who connect well with the residents and understand the
pulse better.
7. Choose the ones
who are willing to help others and have patience dealing with
residents.
8. The candidate
should be willing to work with any other elected HOA Board member.
9. Beware of some
candidates who just want to do some work in their vicinity NOT for the entire
Parkside neighborhood.
10.Beware of some
candidates who have been disruptive and opposed the very idea of HOA itself.
11.You would want
HOA Board members who unite residents together by volunteering
in social events like Diwali, Holi, Nav Durga, Ester and other festivals.
12.We want HOA
Board members who are helping and active thru out the year NOT just
active only at the time of elections and have hidden agendas.
13.For e.g., one
candidate is talking about Basketball & playgrounds but only looking to fix
the creek at Arches with HOA money. That particular candidate is behaving nice
only during the time of election and later will show true colors. In the past,
this candidate wanted to close the HOA(no resident HOA Board) and only wanted
some private company to run HOA.
14.One specific
candidate asked HOA to stop celebrating Holi festival because it is ethnic
festival and not popular (less than 200 residents attended even when it was
900). At the same time, for election purpose this candidate is posting photos
wearing ethnic wear just for votes.
15.One specific
candidate is promoting India kind of reservation for HOA elections like reserve
2 seats for women.
16.If candidates
don’t have any specific agendas, they will create totally fake agenda to
appease some very specific section of residents to somehow prove their
relevance. One can decide what these candidates will do once they are part of
HOA Board?
17.Meeting with
City of Irving can be done by any resident. Why one specific candidate setup
the meeting with City of Irving just few days prior to final voting day? Why
this meeting was not setup prior to election?
18.Why some of
the residents are just coming up with ideas now only? Is it like
elections in India where all the promises (from leaders) and demands (from
public) surface out during election time only?
19.I believe some
candidates are over promising and some resident’s demands
are not realistic at all. At one side, some candidates
are talking about reducing HOA assessment but keep on promising new stuff without
having much knowledge about HOA financials and how the revenue will be
generated for those unrealistic promises? If every candidate at least explains
residents with facts in terms of what is their one focal point and how that
will be achieved – that will be great.
20.Some of the
candidate never came forward as a volunteer for any event or
never have even logged in to the HOA portal to understand “how HOA
works?”. Talking is easy, doing is difficult.
21.Some of these candidates are highly divisive and manufacturing issues on their own like only some residents got notices but not all or some of the ARC request took too much time. If they get elected, they will divide this beautiful and peaceful community rather than doing any good. It’s the HOA management companies which sends notice NOT HOA Board. HOA Board gets the report and in case any resident has any issue, they should reach out to Management company first. In case no response then CC Board members for escalation. That’s the process that needs to be followed. Management company sent eBlast on 28th Apr 2023 about the same.
22.Please
read this blog which has HOA 101 – educates Home
owners in terms of responsibilities of HOA Board, HOA management company, City,
DFW and any other entities.
23. Winning
HOA Board election is not the only thing; one has to earn the trust of the
residents-that’s the most important task.
24. Watch
out for the candidates who says we can't read long blogs. If you are in HOA,
you have to go thru long legal contracts from vendors and other entities. You
need to have patience dealing with resident's issues. HOA is definitely not the
right place for them.
25. HOA elections
should be low profile and peaceful. If some candidates are very hostile with
other candidates, then what are they proving out here? How they will treat HOA
management company, vendors and most importantly residents?
26. You can go
door to door for campaign, but where were you since 2014 or since when you
started living here? How many of them were in City Hall meetings or volunteering
in community events or came forward for something which was for the betterment of Parkside?
27. Not everybody has past experience as HOA Board member or volunteer but what about having right attitude?
